The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends that at least 9 meters of green area is necessary to enjoy a good quality of life. The municipality of La Molina is one of the districts with the most green areas within the Metropolitan Lima area. But the management of these areas generates high costs and high waste generation. It thus constitutes extensive maintenance and waste management work. Improper management of these can be detrimental to the health of its inhabitants and a source of disease. The objective of this work is to present historical information on the management of organic waste from the maintenance of parks and gardens within the period from 2015 to 2018. The results indicate that less than 10% of the organic waste generated by this maintenance is reused for the generation of compost. The management of organic waste is carried out basically in 2 ways, the collection, transportation and final disposal of the waste in a landfill and the selection, transformation and reuse of the organic waste in the production of compost. Although there are no constant input volumes for reuse, there are constant amounts of unused waste sent to the landfill. This indicates that not all the organic waste generated is reused, which may be a lack of budget or lack of capacity in the area for composting. There is a constant and an increase during the years of study in the maintenance of green areas and waste generation in the district. This information will make it possible to improve resource management in a sustainable way and serve as a basis for studying the impact of proper management of organic waste.
