The present work comprises two phases, the first one consists of hydrological simulation of Aricota lagoon in order to assess the wáter availability for small hydropower plant Aricota III, and a second phase which includes the optimal sizing of the hydropower plant based on the design flow selection.Water Evaluation and Planning –WEAP- model was applied to reproduce the hydrological response of the drainage basin and to simulate the reservoir operation. The selection of the optimal design flow for the hydropower plant was carried out by solving an objective function which seeks to minimize the annual cost of the project per kw-hr of energy generation.
