An uniformity trial using the Sweet Potato (Ipomoea batatas) cv. “Nemañete” was conducted in La Molina (Peru) was conducted in La Molina (Peru) with the purposets determine optimum plot size and appropriate number of replication required for significance in field experiments. Optimum plot size found with Smith method (1938) was 16 plants or 4.08 square meters and the coefficient of soil heterogeneity (b1) was 0.492139. Using Hatheway and Williams method (1958) optimum plot size was 12 plants or 2.98 square meters and the weighed coefficient of soil heterogeneity (B2), 0.414753. Using maximum curvature and Comparison for Variances methods, optimum plot sizes reached to 72-60 plants or 18-15 square meters respectively without considering costs associated to experimental plots. It was determined that four replications appeared to be sufficient considering an appropriate level of precision and an optimum plot size of 60 plants, using Hatheway method (1961).
