The purpose of the research is to determine how ecotourism can contribute to the terrirorial development of the area known as Route of Waterfalls, which includes the districts of Cuispes and Valera in the province of Bongará and the district of Chiliquín in the province of Chachapoyas. In this area there are the Gocta and Yumbilla waterfalls and their basin header; and the area is proposed as a reserve area under the modality of Regional Conservation Area. The study collects information on social, environmental, cultural, economic and institutional aspects, whose analysis allows us to propose a model of territorial development through ecotourism and notice how this activity can contribute to the dynamization of the territory through the valuation of assets biocultural, generating a better travel experience for visitors (knowledge, interpretation and assessment of the area visited), better economic income for the local population, through the provision of services and related activities and benefits for conservation, environmental management, promotion of the area, as well as the development of future intercommunal agreements for the conservation of ecosystems and water. Finally, this study can be a valuable instrument for the management of territories with similar characteristics in Amazonas and the country, for contributing to improve management for sustainability, taking ecotourism as an instrument for development, rather than as a purely economic activity.
