The objective of this research was to determine genetic progress and genetics and phenotypic trends for milk production (PL) in Brown Swiss cows of a genetic nucleus (Establo Primavera) located in the district of Lurin, Lima. The PEST statistical package was used for the estimation of genetic values (VG), using the BLUP methodology –repeated animal model considering as fixed effects the number of birth calving, year of calving, age at calving (covariable) and as random effects the additive genetic effect, the permanent environment and error. A total of 481lactations were used, corresponding to the VG, the lactations were standardized to 305 days and two milking for the period 1986 to 2006. The VG for the PL of the 185 cows in the stable reported an average of -2.78 ± 141.39 Kg of milk, and 45.41 percent of the cows (84 animals) had positive genetic values. The genetic progress for milk production was determined in four generations, only positive progress was found in G2 and the other generations were negative, considering through each generation the values were: G1 = -2.39 kg of milk, G2 = 12.24 kg of milk, G3 = -26.72 kg of milk y G4 = -30.02 kg of milk. The genetic trend, considered throughout the year of birth of the cows, showed a negative value for PL of -0.27 Kg of milk/year and a positive phenotypic trend for PL of +10.29 Kg of milk/year. In the study period, the spring stable prioritized characteristics of strength, body depth, breast system and fertility, in the selection of bulls, therefore, this reflects the negative means of the genetics values for milking production for each generation and the phenotypic value (PL) has experienced a slight increase due mainly to improvements in the Production system.
