A conceptual model is the representation of a real phenomenon in nature, it is generated with the support of a theoretical framework and information obtained in situ. In this work was established a conceptual model for the formation of storms in the Southern Sierra of Ecuador by analyzing the event of October 19, 2012 in the city of Loja and through the analysis of atmospheric circulation patterns. It was observed that the trigger of this event was the convergence of properties at low levels to the southeast of the Ecuadorian Amazon, a flow from the southeast at 500 hPa and deep ventilation at 200 hPa generated by the Alta de Bolivia. The conceptual models for the formation of these events are presented and it is recommended to continue the study of the triggers.
