The fruit fly is a pest of quarantine importance in Peru, so SENASA applies phytosanitary measures for the internal transport of the host to regulated areas. On average, 1,000 units per month are certified with a load ranging from 10 to 18 MT that are shipped to the south, such as Ica, Arequipa, Moquegua, Tacna, Ayacucho, Cuzco, and Puno. The objective of the inspections is to reduce or prevent the spread of this pest to regulated areas to guarantee quality and safety for domestic and international markets. According to the protocol, fruit suspected of infestation are dissected and when infestation is confirmed, the entire lot is rejected; it is sufficient to find a single infested fruit to reject and change that lot. It is worth mentioning that inspections are carried out in areas close to the wholesale fruit market; however, the authorities of the central office in Ate have been evaluating new ways to centralize and provide greater control and inspection capacity to inspectors.Therefore, the objective of this document is to analyze the implementation of the phytosanitary internal quarantine measures procedure for fruit flies Ceratitis capitata Wiedemann and Anastrepha spp in the wholesale fruit market. The internal quarantine inspection protocol is based exclusively on the manual PRO-SCV-14 -REV03 (2022), which are applied in the centers of origin. In addition, it can be pointed out that the sampling applied in the fruit inspection procedure would not be representative, because it is governed by a sampling table that does not consider the totality of each sample unit, resulting to be unrepresentative with respect to 1% and 2% of the total.
