In 2014, Peru launched the National Agrarian Innovation Program (PNIA) intending to strengthen the National Institute of Agrarian Innovation (INIA) and promote innovation in the agricultural sector. This program included a regional strategic research and technology transfer fund that financed 148 research and technology transfer projects carried out by INIA between 2016 and 2020. These projects played a crucial role in strengthening INIA's strategic agrarian innovation services by generating, validating, and disseminating knowledge and technologies. This was achieved through various types of research, including basic, strategic, adaptive, and applied research. In this regard, 1,045 experiments were carried out, including research on priority crops and livestock, biotechnology, climate change and postharvest processes, which led to the generation of 99 technologies and the release of 10 new varieties. Additionally, 994 technology transfer events were organized, focusing not only on crop and livestock management but also on promoting environmental practices in response to climate change. These projects also contributed to the publication of 77 scientific articles, 2 accession catalogs, and 37 technical manuals, available in the INIA's web repository. Internal and external factors influenced the projects, affecting the execution timelines and sustainability of achievements, highlighting the importance of establishing strategic alliances, seeking scalability, and improving knowledge management to ensure the continuity of progress.
