The study is carried out in a 10 km stretch of the Virú River, with the purpose of determining the flood zones, identifying critical points and comparing the results obtained using the onedimensional and two-dimensional models. The development of this research work took three (03) stages: pre-field work, which was the gathering of information and coordination with institutions related to the subject; field work, in which the identification of the critical points of the study area and cabinet work was carried out, which consisted in the systematization of the hydrological and topographic information to be worked in the different modeling programs, likewise, it was used the data generated to determine the economic loss of flooded areas. The results obtained showed 5 critical points to be taken into account in a flood in the Virú river, these reached 13 ha for a simulation with Hec-Ras and 17 ha for a simulation with IBER for a return period of 200 years, as well Also, a study of losses caused by the flood was carried out, which took as parameters, the flooded area, the yield of the crop per hectare, the volume of production, the price per farm (S /. Kg) and the cost of the land. With the simulation data and the study of losses caused by the flood, it was possible to estimate the loss that would generate a flood, for a period of return of 200 years, with the hydraulic simulation of Hec-Ras 13 ha have been flooded along of the 10 km of the section of the Virú river which causes a loss of crops and land of S. / 3,743,879.31 new soles; the imulation with the Iber program results in 17 ha. Flooded along the 10 km of the Viru river section which causes a loss of crops and land of S. / 5,240,860.98 nuevos soles. For the modeling of rivers with a stable flow, the one-dimensional models are more than enough, but to simulate floods, “huaycos” and overflows, the two-dimensional models are more efficient.
