The Andean ecosystem presents heterogeneity among the Production Units with Tarwi (Lupinus mutabilis Sweet,) (UPT), its analysis is necessary, with the objective of evaluating sustainability as an underutilized crop in the Andean highlands of the Mantaro valley-Junín. Were the environments of Quicha Grande, Acolla, Cruz Pampa, Hualahoyo and Matahulo, where they were determined, their characterization, sustainability and establishment of genotypes. The rotation of factors, generated three synthetic variables, farm resources, socioenvironmental reality and social dimension; the variable, extension of cultivation land, was the most influential that explains the problem of characterization. The general sustainability index satisfies the conditions of sustainability, reaching 3/4 percentage points of the UPT as sustainable. The dimensions, by domain of recommendation (environments) indicated to be sustainable and its critical points in the economic dimension, was the production surface of self-consumption, in the ecological, the management of plant cover and in socio-cultural, access to health and coverage sanitary. Of the genotypes that can contribute to sustainable development, in yield, the ecotype of the farmer surpassed the others in Matahulo, Acolla and Cruz Pampa, showing greater precocity and tolerance to frost in Acolla; the ecotype E-08-0501 surpassed everyone in Hualahoyo, also promoting greater yield and precocity and, with a slight reaction to foliar diseases in environments. In the components of yield, the ecotypes E-08-0501 and E-08-1576 had a stable behavior in the four environments even though there was heterogeneity between them, the latter ecotype reached higher plant height and Acolla influenced to achieve this, in addition he was tolerant of frost in Cruz Pampa. All the ecotypes reported a low incidence of damage from the pests, “Black weevil of the Andes“ (Adioristus spp, Scoetoborus sp and Cylydrorhinus sp) and Agrotis sp. The “rust“ (Uromyces lupini) and the “wilt“ (Rhizoctonia solani) showed moderate damage in environments.
