A very important aspect in the exploitation of quail is reproduction, because fertility and birth are reproductive characteristics with a great direct economic value. The present research work was formulated with the objectives of: 1) To evaluate the effect of the age of the breeding quail on the fertility, hatchability, natality and productive characteristics of the progeny in quail (Coturnix coturnix japonica), (2) Evaluate the progeny's performance with respect to the age of their parents and their economic retribution. The study was carried out in the Experimental Poultry Unit of the National Agrarian University La Molina. A total of 2000 quail eggs were used grouped according to the age of the breeder, distributed randomly, after classification in 4 lots, (11 weeks of age, 21 weeks of age, 30 weeks of age and 44 weeks of age). Each batch had five repetitions, using in each experimental unit 100 quail eggs of their respective age, then for consumption and weight of the progeny 30 quail BBs were selected per repetition. The results were analyzed using a mathematical model, to evaluate the results of the lots on fertility, birth, hatchability, embryonic mortality, food consumption and the weight of the progeny until the sixth week of age. An effect of the age of the parents was found (P <0.05) showing the best results those of 21 weeks and 30 weeks, with respect to fertility (98% and 97%), birth (76.2% and 82.2%) and hatchability (86.6% and 79.9%), respectively. In the embryonic mortality significant differences were found (P<0.05) only in the intermediate stage (8 - 12 days) being the 30 weeks of age with the lowest percentage (1.6%). Regarding the performance of the progeny, no statistical differences were found in the food consumption, but in the weight of the progeny (P<0.05) where the 44-week batch showed a better average value than the 21-week-old with 81.43 g. and 78.25 g., respectively. Therefore, the breeders of 21 and 30 weeks show the best reproductive parameters, however, breeders of 44 weeks of age show better weights in the progeny. The highest economic retribution was for the 30-week-old lot with S/. 317.25 compared to the 11 weeks with S/. 287.27.
