Cusco city presents a special geomorphology that forces the urban sector of the city to have a form lengthened, a cause of this the priority to the construction of longitudinal routes and reducing importance to the routes of transversal connection, so this are discontinuous and non-homogeneous. Even with the plans of urban development and urban mobility that should been implemented a lot of year ago for a better fluency in the traffic, nevertheless his breach is the principal reason of the lack of articulation in the vehicular traffic. This investigation has the purpose of evaluating the geometric design, road capacity and traffic flow of these transversal corridors to show their influence on the traffic congestion of the city. The analyses were based on the methodology of Bazant’s Model, using it to calculate the traffic load of primary avenues, demonstrating the great volume vehicles that is generated by trips inside the city which needs to circulate along the transversal corridors, it´s based too on the Highway Capacity Manual (TBR) for analyzing the capacity and levels of service of the critical signalized intersections of each axis. The most relevant results of the present investigation allow to affirm that the transversal route´s capacity is not enough and the geometric design of these is very irregular, in some cases due to the presence of the Velasco Astete airport. It is also a conclusion that by solving this infrastructure defects, after the airport get reubicated in 2027, it is possible to estimate a vehicular redistribution in a road network articulated by continuous and homogeneous transversal corridors in design, connecting the north and south side of the city, achieving by this way a improve in the fluency of the circulation of vehicles in Cusco city.
