In Peru, Agrobiodiversity Zones were established to manage and encourage the conservation and sustainable use of the diversity of native species cultivated by indigenous peoples. In one of them, Quisqui, located in the Central Andes, a high number of potato varieties (Solanum, section Petota: Solanaceae) have been reported. The objective of the present research was to quantify potato crop diversity, based on farmer denomination, in the Quisqui Agrobiodiversity Zone, determining the influence of environmental, cultural and socioeconomic factors on this diversity. At the end of the 2016-2017 season, the seed stores of 12 potato-producing families were evaluated, to whom a semi-structured interview was also applied to assess the aforementioned factors. A total of 682 different potato varieties were recorded. Simpson's and Shannon's indices were used to evaluate diversity, which was generally high (Simpson: 0.86 and Shannon: 2.77). Ninety percent of the varieties were categorized as rare or very rare (conserved by less than 5 farmers). The inhabitants of the Quisqui Agrobiodiversity Zone are strongly identified with the traditional Andean culture in general, presenting a high level of attachment to their territory. The search for new varieties was the variable that most influenced the diversity of potato cultivation.
