The objective of the study was to estimate the demand and balance of nutrients, compare the autoecology and evaluate the effect of the addition of NPK on the growth dynamics of cuttings of Festuca dolichophylla (Fedo) and Festuca humilior (Fehu). The experiment was carried out in grasslands of good condition of the SAIS Túpac Amaru, located at 11 ° 57 '16 .47 '' S, 75 ° 42' 24.89 '' W. The treatments were fertilization with N, P, K, NPK and a control. The application of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium were 200, 160 and 100 kg ha -1 , respectively. The design used was completely randomized block with contrast. The variables evaluated by hassock grass were: volume (cm3), height (cm), number of tillers, percentage of floral and dead tillers, transpiration rate (mmol m-²·s -1). The nitrogen requirement was estimated at 36.93 ± 4.30 and 35.55 ± 3.7 kg ha -1 , of phosphorus in 2.23 ± 0.30 and 1.50 ± 0.20 kg ha -1 and of potassium in 31.68 ± 4.70 and 18.19 ± 4.00 kg ha -1 in Fedo and Fehu respectively. Fedo showed a higher volume ( 1326.51 ± 182.49 cm3) and height (33.90 ± 1.18 cm) in July-2017. Meanwhile, Fehu had a higher percentage of floral tillers (60.69 ± 15.95%) and a lower transpiration rate (40.64 ± 9.79 mmol m-²·s -1) in December -2016. The conclusions were: the addition of nitrogen and phosphorus did not stimulate growth in Fedo and Fehu, while the addition of potassium did promote growth in Fedo. The lower concentration of phosphorus in Fehu would indicate a mobilization of this nutrient or its less absorption. Fedo showed space occupation as an adaptive strategy, due to its greater volume, meanwhile, Fehu had an early onset of flowering, his adaptive strategy being early flowering. Fedo can get higher growth with extra K addition, he also had a higher sweat rate throughout the year. With this information we could indicate that potassium possibly favors a greater flowering of Fedo and Fehu.
