The objective of the present investigation was to determine whether the addition of vitamin A (10 000 IU) in an intramammary antibiotic suspension based on Cephalexin monohydrate (200mg), Neomycin sulphate (340mg), Cloxacillin benzathine (500mg), in a vehicle of slow release contributes in the reduction of the Somatic Cells Count (SCC). For this purpose, 40 cows of Holstein, Brown Swiss and Simmental breeds that were in the final stage of lactation were used, which were randomly distributed in two experimental groups: Control Group: with intramammary antibiotic suspension and Treatment Group: with suspension intramammary antibiotic plus the addition of vitamin A. The evaluation of the SCC was carried out before the treatment and for the response to the effect the SCC was evaluated after the treatment, the cumulated milk production was taken 100 days postpartum of both the campaign previous without the treatment. The data were processed by means of summary measures and comparisons between both groups were carried out using the Mann – Whitney U test. The results showed the SCC before treatment of 2 230 250 ± 877 053 and 2 475 750 ± 810 599, while afterwards they were 988 875 ± 759 907 and 1 255 000 ± 994 601 respectively. Regarding the yield, the cumulative milk production before the treatment were 3 677 ± 589 kg and 3 459 ± 973 kg, while later they were 4 580 ± 942 kg and 4 179 ± 1 128 kg respectively. When comparing the result, no significant difference (p > 0, 05) between both groups. It is concluded that the SCC, as well as the cumulative milk production were similar between both treatment groups
