The orange is very important for its high content of vitamin C and antioxidant properties, and many families depend economically on this crop. In Peru it is mostly consumed fresh. The Valencia variety is the most cultivated in our country, concentrating its greatest production in the jungle. Comparisons were made between citrus farmers from the San Martin De Pangoa district and the “Alejita” farm to determine the real situation of this crop. In this area, the majority are small farmers (less than 5 hectares) who lack technical agronomic management for this fruit tree, resulting in low or insufficient profitability. Three reasons have been detected why citrus growers perceive low returns or even losses. The first is the oversupply that is generated by the increase in planting areas of Valencia oranges, resulting in low prices. Secondly, there is the poor agronomic management that the farmer proposes in his field, such as: inadequate rootstock, lack of an irrigation system, no fertilization plan, no pruning, little or no pest and disease control, precarious post-harvest management, etc. Generating small fruits, of low quality in terms of brix degrees, stained or chopped fruits that reduce their price, also during transportation they are damaged because they do not have access roads in good conditions. And finally, there is the tight commercial window of good prices, the harvest coinciding with the months of low prices. Of all, water deficit is the most determining factor in low production and it is urgent to address it with irrigation systems
