Among the most determining problems in public health in underdeveloped countries is neonatal mortality that occurs more frequently in low-weight births (LBW) and chronic malnutrition. The main objective of this study is to identify the factors that determine the weight of the newborn of adolescent mothers who have given birth in health facilities in Lima through multinomial logistic regression, a technique frequently used in the health area. The model considers a dependent variable, the weight of the newborn, which is categorical in nature with 3 classes or categories: low weight; normal and macrosomic weight; and quantitative and qualitative independent variables. The logistic regression model determines as influencing factors the duration of the pregnancy, the condition of the childbirth (normal, cesarean or other), the educational level of the mother, the sex of the newborn, as well as the number of abortions that the mother had.
