Soils properties in mountain regions can show high spatial variability, which can affect the results of field research. The spatial variability of soil physical and chemical properties in a plot of the farm community of Aramachay (central Andes of Peru) was evaluated to establish possible interactions between them and landform. The plot under study was divided in a 10 m x 10 m grid, resulting in 52 intersections. Soil samples were taken from the furrow slice (20 cm depth) at each intersection. Soil color, bulk density, gravimetric moisture content, pH, cation exchange capacity, organic matter content, available P (Olsen) and K (ammonium acetate), exchangeable cations and micronutrients, were analyzed. All quantitative variables were compared in pairs to determine the linear correlation and subjected to multivariate principal component analysis. Results showed a high spatial variability in the plot, with a significant correlation between the landform variation and most parameters analyzed. Significant correlations were foundbetween soil organic matter and cation exchange capacity, exchangeable calcium and the contents of zinc and iron. Soil organic matter increased in the lower parts of the plot and decreased in the upper parts. Variables such as bulk density, available potassium, exchangeable potassium, manganese and, to a lesser extentsoilpH,were positively correlated with the terrain altitude, decreasing according to the altitude decrease.
