The objective of this research was to evaluate the sustainability of tree tomato farms (Solanum betaceum) in Guachapala canton, Azuay, Ecuador, through the characterization of tree tomato farms and the evaluation of social, economic and environmental sustainability of these tree tomato farms. We used the “Multicriteria Methodology“ which considers the three dimensions of sustainability (social, economic and environmental) and worked with a sample of 52 producers out of 56. Regarding farm characterization, the average farm size was 1.97 ha and the owners are mostly male (92.3%). The predominant degree of education is primary (71.1%), 94.2% of owners got a ownership title and 82.7% of the population lives in the farm. 67% of the farms have piped water, electricity and telephone services and 65.4% have a monthly income of less than USD 499. The yield of the crop is 15.07 t / ha / year and 86.7% sells the fruit at prices above 0.75 USD / kg. The sustainability assessment showed that 92.31% of the farms are socially sustainable because they have a Social Indicator (ISS) greater than 2. 76.92% of the farms are not economically sustainable, because they have an Economic Indicator (ISK) of less than 2. 92.31% of the farms are not environmentally sustainable, having an Environmental Sustainability Indicator (ISA) of less than 2. Finally, 98.08% of the farms had a General Sustainability Index (ISG) of less than 2, that is, the majority are not sustainable.
