Plant succession provides resources and ecological services of interest that can serve to implement management systems that are sustainable. The study of the dynamics of agroecosystems, using succession as a tool, has allowed agriculture to develop methodologies to address more efficiently the productivity in the past and the development of agroecological theory in the present. In this sense, Cajatambo presents itself as an opportunity for this analysis since this place registers a process of abandonment of hillside agriculture. The objective of the research was to describe the change in plant diversity in early post-agricultural succession plots in four agroecosystems in the district of Cajatambo, Lima. This was done through the characterization of plant diversity, through collections, the recording of total plant cover and repeated plant cover, as well as the collection of total biomasses in the four agroecosystems. Finally, with this information, the possible successional trajectories of the four agroecosystems under evaluation were defined, using the nMDS, ANOSIM and SIMPER analyses. There are 78 species belonging to 30 botanical families. The species with the highest Total Plant Cover (%) are Cenchrus clandestinus “kikuyo“, Bidens pilosa “amor seco“, Eragrostis sp. and Calamagrostis vicunarum “crespillo“, accumulating Repeated Plant Cover (%) below 10 cm. The spatial similarity forms two groups of plots: Ocopata-Tupicocha and Rancas-Ucupi. The temporal similarity forms 3 groups of seasons: the first and last sampling, the two samples after induction and the 2016 samples, which corresponds to a less rainy year. Finally, the taxa that contribute the most to temporal groupings are: Cenchrus clandestinus “kikuyo“ (Ocopata), family Asteraceae (Tupicocha) and Calamagrostis vicunarum “crespillo“ (Ucupi). In Rancas it is found that the differences are best explained by the diversity as a whole.
