The immediate and residual knock down effects of six commercial adulticides: ALPHA CPL® 10 C.E. with alpha cypermethrin as the active ingredient (a.i.), ATOXIN DISP® C.E a mixture of rotenone and pyrethrin; DEVAPOX® 50 EC with dichlorvos; MATANOX D® 2.5 %PM with deltamethrin; SOLFAC® E.C. 050 with cyfluthrin, and STOCKADE® with cypermethrin; all of them registered in DIGESA for industrial use. These products were evaluated on wild flies, following a simple, cheap, exact and quick semi field procedure; this allowed to find out probable discrepancies among products in two dosage of the a.i: the recommended dosage as printed in their labels, and a constant dosage equivalent to 20 mg of the a.i./square meter, the averaged lowest dosage recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO). There were considered the following five timed evaluations for the same deposits: 24 hours, and 1, 2, 3 and 4 weeks of deposit age. The best commercial product with uniform doses (20 mg of the active ingredient per square meter) was MATANOX D® 2.5 %PM with 88% of knock down effect, and the best commercial product with recommended dosage (500 mg of the active ingredient per square meter) was DEVAPOX® 50 EC with 100% of knock down effect measured both at 24 hours after the application. DEVAPOX® 50 EC could be immediately effective, as a contact and fumigant insecticide, linked with the particular fumigants insecticidal properties, among them that are gradually lost with the passing time, and did not show a good residual effect. For this reason is recommendable implement annual effectiveness tests for all the recommended insecticides, to allow more precise recommendations about their application dosage and residuality or to implement actions which permit to remove their use for the control housefly adult.
