To develop technological alternatives, adaptable to climate change, which can contribute to the sustainability of rice cultivation in the Chancay-Lambayeque and Jequetepeque-La Libertad valleys, in Peru, four trials were carried out. In the first, using the NIR-43 cultivar, three forms of nitrogen application (100% incorporated during soil preparation; 50% incorporated during soil preparation and 50% broadcasted on sheet water at the beginning of the floral differentiation; 50% broadcasted at 15 days after transplant and 50% at the beginning of the floral differentiation) and three doses of nitrogen fertilization (120, 240 and 320 kg ha-1), plus a check, were compared in terms of nitrogen use efficiency. In the second, two direct dry sowing systems (in rows and broadcasting) and three transplant systems (in rows, at random and the SICA system) wer compared .In the third, the responses of four commercial cultivars (IR-43, Tinajones, Mallares and La Puntilla) and four promising lines, under two forms of water management (flooded soil and saturated soil) were evaluated. Finally, the fourth had as main objective to characterize the current rice production system in the area of influence of Ferreñafe Irrigation Commission. The results indicate that: The best form of nitrogen application of the nitrogen was the incorporation of 50% at soil preparation plus broadcasting the remaining 50%, at the beginning of the floral primordium. The two direct sowing systems and the SICA system were superior to both row and random transplant systems. There were no differences between the two forms of water management. On average, the cultivars produced 9.4 t ha-1. For the two water management systems, the cultivars that produced the highest yields were Mallares and La Puntilla (10.41 and 10.26 t ha-1, respectively). The best selection indices for water stress were: geometric average productivity, average productivity and arithmetic mean. The 79.6% of farmers use the indirect system in puddled soil, with flooding and drying ccycles. Weeds, insects and diseases control is mostly done with chemical products; 72.8% use high nitrogen levels (320 to 340 Kg ha-1 ; 65% use 17,000 m3 of water ha-1 and 25.2% use 15,000 m3 ha-1.
