The aim of this study was to determine the effect of 4 different ratios of Omega-6 to Omega3 (7.96:1, 4.27:1, 2.46:1, 1.43:1) on growth performance and tissue fatty acid profiles. An 8-week feeding trial was conducted. Paco (Piaractus brachypomus) juveniles (105 g initial body weight and 16.4 cm height) were distributed in 16 tanks (5 fish/tank, and 4 replicates per diet) the diets were isoenergetic and isoproteic. Biometry was performed at the beginning and at the end of the test. Data were statistically compared with one-way ANOVA at 5% significance using MINITAB Statistical Software System v17. and Solver-Excel Statistical Software. No significant (P > 0.05) differences were found in weight gain (WG), feed conversion rate, specific growth rate (SGR) However, the quadratic regression analysis determined that the optimum Omega-6 to Omega-3 ratio for weight gain was 5.43:1, for feed conversion was 7.63: 1 and for the specific growth rate was 5.40: 1. The fatty acid profile of the fish fillet reflected the fatty acid composition of the diets. Also, it was observed that the ratio of Omega-6 to Omega-3 of the fish fillet decreased as the ratio in the diets decreased. The results showed Paco´s ability to elongate and desaturate this sort of fatty acids and the deposition of these in the muscle.
