In the present work it was evaluated the effect of three types of zeolite (sodium treated, decationizated and natural) in removal of total ammonium nitrogen, in the pH, electrical conductivity and sodium ion concentration (Na+) from a water medium specifically conditioned for maintenance and culture of amazonic ornamental species and in the survival rate of Amazonian fished places in that same environment. Common aquarium filters were made using as a substrate zeolite treated with sodium chloride, deionized water and non- treated (natural) and tests were performed in which parameters of temperature, pH, conductivity, TAN presence (NH3 + y NH4 + ) and it’s removal were measured. Consisting the experiment in two stages, in the first one which lasted 14 days ammonia chloride salts were used (simulating excretin, strictly measuring TAN removal) and in the second one which lasted 18 days were used neon tetra Paracheirodon innesi. In both stages it was proved that there is no significative evidence between treatments regarding TAN removal (being the averages percentages of 22.77% for zeolite with sodium, 20,65% for uncationized zeolite and 21.78% for natural zeolite in the first stage and 53.26% for zeolite with sodium, 54.34% for uncatinized zeolite and 55.86% for natural zeolite in the second stage). In the first stage, in particular, there was no evidence of significative difference in the remaining parameters. Instead, in the second stage, it could be observed a significative change in the pH, electric conductivity and sodium ions parameters analized (7.37, 221.24 μS/cm and 25.36 mg/l of sodium zeolite, above the other treatments, which had and average of 7.13, 73.96 μS/cm and 3.45 mg/l). Thre was no significative difference between treatments on fish survival.
