The present investigation was carried out to expand the knowledge of the weight loss of tubers of 311 accessions of native potatoes stored in the environment, under diffused light for five months, between spring and summer. It was related to sprouting characteristics and the differences attributed to the shape, skin color and pulp color as probable indicators of the differences in its conservation. With weight loss data for 21 weeks, a cluster analysis was performed that allowed classifying groups of accessions with similar weight loss characteristics and identifying accessions with extreme weight loss. Pearson's correlation analyzes were performed between the percentage of weight loss and the numerical variables (sprouting index, number of eyes and weight of shoots), non-parametric comparison tests of Kruskall - Wallis and Dunn's multiple comparisons between the percentage of weight loss and the categorical variables of skin color, general shape, flesh color. It was found that there is a wide range of differences in weight loss during all the months of storage and groups of accessions according to their weight loss characteristics (low, high and very high). Until the fifth month, 83 accessions with very good conservation capacity due to their low weight loss (13.6-24.8%) and 20 accessions with high weight loss (34.9 to 78.7%) were identified. Significant correlations of percentage weight loss with sprouting index and number of eyes were found. The general shape and skin color are not characteristics to estimate weight loss, however, at the average level, white-skinned tubers tend to lose less weight than yellowskinned ones. The tubers with yellow pulp presented a higher weight loss than those with white pulp.
