The effect of virgin coconut oil (VCO) supplemented with physical exercise (EF) on weight gain, somatometry, fat deposition, blood biochemistry and antioxidant capacity in obesity-induced Holtzmann rats was evaluated. The study lasted 60 days divided into two phases (F): F1, 30 days of induction to obesity; F2, 30 days of treatment allocation (T). In P2, 36 Holtzman rats were randomly distributed in 6 treatments with 6 repetitions each: T1: obesogenic diet (DO) + 0% VCO-Sedentary (S); T2: DO + 2.5% VCO-S; T3: DO + 5% VCO-S; T4: DO + 0% VCO-Swimming (N); T5: DO + 2.5% of VCO-N and T6: DO + 5% VCO-N. At the end of the study the animals were sacrificed and liver samples were taken for the analysis of antioxidant capacity, in addition to extracting the adipose tissue from different locations. The data obtained were submitted to the ANOVA process under the Completely Random Design with a 2x3 factorial arrangement and the difference in means was calculated with the Fisher test using the MINITAB program. At the end of the F2, no interaction (P> 0.05) was found between the EF and VCO factors in any of the variables evaluated. When analyzing the main effects, a decrease (P <0.05) in weight gain (GDP) and relative kidney weight (PRR) was observed in the animals that swam. Likewise, a higher feed conversion and a lower deposition of visceral and total fat (P <0.05) were obtained in animals with 2.5% VCO inclusion. In conclusion, the inclusion of VCO in the diet supplemented with EF did not generate differences in somatometric variables, blood biochemistry and antioxidant capacity; however, swimming significantly influences the decrease in GDP and PRR; while the inclusion of VCO in the diet reduces the deposition of visceral and total fat.
