In the last 15 years, peruvian coffee production and quality has been threatened by climate change, since is has severe consequences on the phenology of crops and the increase in the presence of pests and diseases, which affect the growth and development of coffee plants. Therefore, the main purpose of this work was to determine the perception that coffee growers in the Pichanaqui district have about the impact of climate change on coffee production. 60 coffee growers in the area were surveyed with questions related to socioeconomic, environmental and agronomic aspects of their agricultural production. In the Pichanaqui district, more than 80% of coffee plantations are cultivated with var. Catimor, are less than 10 years old, have yields between 939 and 1251 kg dry parchment coffee/ha and are part of a cooperative. 55% of coffee producers have chosen organic management for their farms and 90% of producers have adopted the agroforestry system using timber trees as shade. Among the main forest species that accompany coffee, there is pacae soga, pine and American cedar. Regarding the perception of climate change, 67% of coffee producers mention having heard about it and 98% have noticed a change in the climate in their area in the last 14 years. Likewise, 82% of coffee growers have noticed that the seasonality of the rain season has varied, resulting in an increase in pests and diseases, including the coffee berry borer, rust and american leaf spot. It is recommended to continue with studies on the perception of climate change, since they are necessary for the design and implementation of adaptation strategies in vulnerable agroecosystems such as coffee.
