M. graminicola is the most important parasitic nematode in rice-growing areas of the world, considered a serious problem due to its negative effect on yield. The objectives of this research was to determine the resistance level of advanced rice lines (F5) from interspecific crosses of Oryza sativa ssp. japonica x Oryza rufipogon G, and intraspecific crosses of Oryza sativa ssp. japonica x Oryza sativa ssp. japonica to M. graminicola and to determine the sustainability of rice production systems under different conditions of infestation with M. graminicola. In an initial phase, the response of 50 advanced lines of rice from interspecific and intraspecific crosses and the commercial variety INIAP 15 under an infestation level of 2500 J2 of M. graminicola was studied, and in the second phase the lines with the greatest resistance were evaluated with infestations of 500, 1000, 2000 and 3000 J2, in different phenological stages of the crop. The experiments were carried out using completely randomized designs with a factorial arrangement. Sustainability was determined in two areas with high infestation of nematodes, the Babahoyo canton and the Quevedo canton, carried out through surveys. The evaluations of the first phase allowed the identification of the total of 50 advanced F5 rice lines and the commercial variety INIAP 15, the advanced lines 32 (PUYÓN/JP002 P11 – 10) and 5 (PUYÓN/JP002 P8 – 20) with a low population of M. graminicola in 10 g roots and lines 24 (PUYÓN/JP002-P8-28) and (PUYÓN/JP002-P8-32), with a low population of M. graminicola in 100 cm3 of soil. The evaluation of the different levels of infestation with the inoculum of M. graminicola, from transplant to flowering, allowed the identification of the PUYON / PJ002 P11-10 line as the most susceptible and that M. graminicola remains in all phenological stages. Studies on the sustainability of the crop showed that rice production systems are not sustainable.
