The purpose of this thesis was to apply a methodology to build taper equations for the best estimate of the volume of stems of Mahogany (Swietenia macrophylla King) in the department of Madre de Dios. We used 16 polynomial, simple and segmented models, 8 of them were not compatible and 8 were compatible. To determine the taper equations were used the statistical program SAS v8. In the simple models the Linear was used, while regression in segmented polynomials the nonlinear regression was used. to estimate diameters at different heights. Volume equations were obtained for the mathematical integration of equations To compare the equations to estimate diameters and volumes were used three criteria: the bias, the absolute value of the bias and the standard deviation of the bias. simple and compatible taper was the best in the estimation of the diameters to different heights. On the other hand, the segmented and not compatible volume equation, formed by a quadratic submodel and by a linear submodel was the best It is concluded that equation in volume estimation.
