This study was carried out in Huancavelica Region. General objective: describe and analyze the influence of educational and family factors that affect the academic performance of higher education students, these determine the rural development of the area of the National University of Huancavelica (UNH) with the Professional School of Agronomy and the University for Andean Development (UDEA) with the Professional Career in Agricultural Sciences. Were used three techniques of information gathering: 1) Basic knowledge test, 2) closed survey and 3) focus group. Were analyzed infrastructure, equipment, educational material, previous school experience, socioeconomic level of parents and sociodemographic characteristics of the student such as gender, age and mother tongue. Results show that six years were the average age to start primary school, the students rated the laboratories of a regular importance in their academic formation, for the UNH it was 73% and 71% for the UDEA. The importance of the library in its formation is significant and is inversely related to the variable age in years of age. At basic knowledge test was applied to determine the previous school experience, it was obtained that the grade has a significant relationship with the age in years that they have completed. There is highly significant and positive relationship between the number of disapproved courses and the time to complete the studies. The percentage of primary students from rural areas was 37% for UNH and 46% UDEA. The analysis of the socioeconomic level of parents for UNH was 53.3% farmers and for UDEA was 58.3%. For the UNH 53.3% of mothers were housewive and 58.3% for UDEA. The nuclear family size was very variable, (three and others with thirteen people). In the pre-professional practices, the senior students were surveyed and the 48% and 92% from UNH and UDEA had qualification of good. The Quechua language mastery for UNH was 67% for male and 57% for females for intermediate knowledge and UDEA had 88% for male and 77% for female students. The relationship between availability and book quality is highly significant. The relationship between sex and the score in basic knowledge is a negative and significant. Instruction grade of parent was highly related with the type of job and the socioeconomic level. There is a negative and significant relationship between gender and language spoken by students
