The production and marketing of ornamental plants are activities closely related to agricultural activity, as they require specific resources for their development. Among the most requested species in the market is Duranta erecta, which is frequently seen beautifying parks, avenues, berms, and green roofs in Metropolitan Lima, thanks to its aesthetic qualities and easy maintenance. This work focuses on analyzing the viability of producing Duranta erecta in nursery conditions, with a view to its subsequent commercialization, based on accumulated professional experience in recent years. The production of Duranta erecta ‘Lemon’ and Duranta erecta ‘Golden Edge’ under semi-controlled conditions under shade netting in a nursery provides a suitable environment for plant growth, although it allows for the influence of environmental elements such as sunlight, wind, and rain, which affect internal temperature and humidity. Harvesting cuttings is the most important task for the production of ornamental species, as a good choice of vegetative material ensures effective rooting. Likewise, appropriate cultural and agronomic practices such as irrigation, fertilization, and pest and disease control contribute to the success of ornamental species production. Additionally, it is important to consider production costs to ensure the economic viability of ornamental species production in nurseries and their subsequent marketing. To strengthen the industry, constant monitoring of market trends and establishing connections with key clients involved in the implementation and maintenance of green areas, such as municipalities, are required.
