The objective of the present study was to evaluate the effect of inclusion of the probiotic Bacillus amyloliquefaciens (B. amyloliquefaciens) in the diet on the productive response and intestinal morphometry of fattening guinea pigs. A total of 100 weaned male guinea pigs (14± 3 days) were randomly distributed in two treatments of five experimental units with 10 animals each. The duration of the experiment was 44 days. The treatments evaluated were: T1: control diet and T2: diet with 0.050% probiotic B. amyloliquefaciens. Feed (in the form of flour) and fresh water were provided ad libitum; in addition, all animals received broccoli sprouts as fodder. Live weight, weight gain, feed intake and feed conversion were registered weekly. On day 44 of the experiment, six animals per treatment were sacrificed for carcass performance determination. Likewise, samples were taken from the guinea pigs' jejunum to determine the depth of the Lieberkühn crypts. The registered data were evaluated for analysis of variance under a Completely Randomized Design and Duncan's test was used for the test of means. The results showed that inclusion with the probiotic Bacillus amyloliquefaciens in guinea pig diets has not a significant effect (P˃0.05) on weight gain, feed intake, feed conversion or carcass performance of the animals. However, it is shown that Lieberkühn's crypt depth was influenced (P˂0.05) by the inclusion of the probiotic in the diet. Payback and economic merit were higher for the group of animals receiving the diet with Bacillus amyloliquefaciens. In conclusion, the addition of the probiotic based on B. amyloliquefaciens does not affect the productive performance of fattening guinea pigs, but it did present higher depth of crypts of Lieberkühn and resulted in a better retribution and economic merit.
