The camera traps installed in the Sauce Grande sector of the El Angolo Hunting Reserve (CCEA) provide a great opportunity for the development of relative abundance indices in the population of white-tailed deer. This study aimed to create Capture per Unit Effort (CPUE) indices based on camera trapping in order to demonstrate the relationship between these indices, which represent the population of female and juvenile deer in the Sauce Grande sector of CCEA, and the monthly precipitation recorded from 2012 to 2016. We sought to show that the dynamics of the population of female and juvenile white-tailed deer are strongly related to the pronounced seasonality of the dry forest in CCEA. Through CPUE calculations, statistical analyses of normality, comparison tests based on statistical median (Kruskal-Wallis), application of Bootstrap confidence intervals, and collection of precipitation data throughout the study period, we obtained results consistent with our expectations. Among other findings, we demonstrated a delay in the response between rainfall and calculated indices in a given year, the possible connection between the current situation of CCEA and the delayed rainfall in 2015, the effective use of cameras in terms of data homogeneity and sampling design over the three-year study period, and the comparison of this new index with the historical database of CCEA (Hunter/Deer/Days indices), yielding similar trends. Ultimately, this study concludes that the response delay is valid since whitetailed deer are considered medium to large mammals, and their life rhythms are longer and more significantly affected over extended periods. Additionally, the relationship between the population of female and juvenile deer and monthly precipitation is strongly positive, primarily dependent on chronological patterns rather than rainfall intensity. Finally, we observed the birthing season of deer in CCEA, which occurs in the first quarters of the year, but due to abnormal precipitation in 2015, shifted to the third quarter in 2016.
