Peruvian Hake (Merluccius gayi peruanus) is the principal demersal which generates incomes, more than 100 million-dollars/year in Peru. The principal distribution of Hake is along the North Peruvian coast, being Paita (5°S), the port wherein has been registered the most important catches. Previous studies indicate that Hake is directly influenced by Cromwell Current Southern extension of the coastal branch, in their distribution-abundance. Cromwell Current (CrC) go across more than 14 mil-km along the Equatorial Line before arrives to Peru. Nevertheless, until now does not exist an statistical evidence of relationship between current velocity at 0°N170°W (5500 miles far) with oceanographic conditions in the North of Peru. In this way, the present research has as principal objective analyze and prove CrC influence in Hake abundance in front of Paita (4°30'S and 5°30'S) using Catch per unit effort (CPUE t/h) during 2003-2013. As result, it was possible to determinate 3 periods: (1) Critic Period or Weak Cromwell during 2003-2006 when CPUE of fleet I-II were 1.2 t/h and fleet III of 3.6 t/h. (2) Cromwell Current Intensification and Weakening period, during 2007 to 2010 when CPUE of fleet I-II increases until 1.7 t/h and fleet III 6.8 t/h. (3) Cromwell Current intensification period, during 2011-2012 when CPUE fleet I-II and III continue increasing until 2.9 t/h and 10.1 t/h respectively. Additionally, Hake size (cm) shows the same growing tendency, from 21.4 cm in 2003 to 29.9 cm in 2013; that is, an increase of 8.5 cm in 11 years. Finally, it was carry out a correlation test between 15°C Isotherm depth (Paita) with CrC core velocity at 0°N170°W and 0°N110°W, resulting significant (p-value<0.05) and highly significant (p-value<0.01) correlation respectively. Furthermore, it was possible to corroborate CrC intensification-weakening using T-S Diagram and Core-Method demonstrating the strong connection as well.
