Objective: characterize the essential oil of Minthostachys mollis (Muña) and evaluate its impact on academic stress levels in pharmacy and biochemistry students at the María Auxiliadora University. Material and method: the quantitative, non-experimental and descriptive study, with 34 students from the UMA in San Juan de Lurigancho. High levels of stress were evaluated by inhalation and topical routes, using the SISCO questionnaire. Organoleptic, physicochemical, and GC-MS analyzes were performed to identify essential oil components. Results: in the inhalation route, a reduction is evident in the 5 dimensions of the study, with stress levels (61.18%) and stressors (64.12%) of moderately high intensity and almost always frequency. The physical and psychological symptoms (51.76%) have medium intensity and sometimes frequency, as do the behavioral symptoms (50.59%). These reductions are significant (p < 0.05,0.01 and 0.001). In contrast, the topical route does not show reduction or significance in any dimension. Conclusions: GC-MS detects pulegone, menthone, and linalool in the essential oil of M. mollis. By inhalation, stress is reduced in several dimensions (medium to high), except in coping strategies. The topical route does not show a reduction in any dimension.
