Research and development (R&D) intensive projects often have problems getting access to capital in their initial stages of operation and when the economy faces contractions in the credit cycle. Therefore, many projects, which could have a high social impact, are truncated not by the performance of their research but by external variables. Likewise, the main source of financing for these projects is usually limited to the private market, more specifically, to Venture Capital. This document investigates the possibility of improving the financing of this class of projects through securitization. This financial innovation could allow obtaining capital in the public market by offering investment tranches with different levels of risk and return that would attract various types of institutional investors. Finally, this research discusses the conditions that could strengthen the investment tranches of this securitized product.
