Cash transfer programs have gained popularity as instruments to combat poverty and inequality in order to ensure the well-being of the population. However, there are discussions that social protection causes perverse incentives, specifically disincentives for employment. Under this premise, we analyze the effect of cash transfer programs on employment, especially the impacts of conditional cash transfer programs (CCTP) on adult employment in different Latin American and Caribbean countries. The effects of the programs were calculated through experimental regression designs, using difference-in-difference and propensity score matching estimators. After reviewing several CCTP in the region, it was identified that a large part of them focus on investing in human capital by improving education and health levels. Their impact on labor participation, despite being negative, is not significant or null. In addition, the hours worked by adults generally increased due to the decrease in child labor. On the other hand, the programs with proposals that included labor insertion issues found that the incentives for informality were not significant. It is recommended to carry out CCTP focused on granting monetary transfers to beneficiaries of working age subject to compliance with co-responsibilities related to entering the labor market in order to obtain a decisive impact on employment.
