The aim of this document is to analyze the literature about the impact of changes in the minimum wage on variables associated with the labor market. The reviewed methodologies are developed on appropriate assumptions for certain economic contexts. However, the main debate focuses on the impact on the probability of being employed, which does not present a consensual direction and seems to be centered on a nonsignificant magnitude. For this reason, the literature focuses on the study of the conditions that lead to each possible direction, proposing different market structures. On the other hand, the companies’ profits are affected by the increase in the minimum wage, despite having mitigation mechanisms such as the substitution of labor for other productive factors and the increase in prices.
