In Peru there are around 1.5 million people with some kind of visual impairment that compromises their quality of life, their work development, among other aspects (“INEI: Disabled people in Peru reach 3 million 209 thousand 261 people“, 2019). Based on this, a pre feasibility study was carried out for the installation of a plant to assemble portable orientation devices that use echolocation for people with visual disabilities, to take advantage of the opportunity to satisfy their need for safe mobility. The product is aimed at blind and visually impaired people living in Metropolitan Lima. As a result, an annual demand of 8,411 units of product at a price of S/. 279 per unit was determined. The plant will be in the district of San Juan de Lurigancho, due to its proximity to the market, the availability of workforce and low transport and rental costs. In addition, it will have a production capacity of 10,073 units/year, limited by the size - technology ratio, and a dimension of 732 m2 including the operational and administrative areas of the plant. To carry out the project, an investment of S/. 402,050 is required, obtained through own capital and a financial entity. After the evaluation of the project, the economic results show an NPV of S/. 245,227 and an IRR of 41.73%, with a benefit cost of S/. 1.61 and a payback period of 3.86 years. While the financial results showed an NPV of S/. 380,580 and an IRR of 86.23%, with a benefit cost of S/. 1.95 and a payback period of 2.51 years, thus demonstrating that the project is profitable.
