Food markets are the source of food supply for many families. However, some problems negatively affect these centres, such as erroneous planning and poor infrastructure. Added to this are external variables that affect the markets. For instance, the increase in competitiveness due to the entry of new commercial formats, the high consumer expectations and the slow process of market adaptation compared to the innovation of commercial proposals. All these factors are the reason for the decline of these supply centres today. The present investigation studies the markets to collect strategies and tools that allow projecting a new design of the market “Señor de Los Milagros“ in the district of Ventanilla. The chosen district, is characterized by its high rates of continuous population growth, where 4.2% of the population is dedicated to commercial activities. These activities are concentrated, for the most part, between the main intersections of the roads that connect the district of Ventanilla with Metropolitan Lima. Understanding location as the key to commercial success, the “Señor de Los Milagros“ market, is located in one of the busiest and most accessible commercial areas. For these reasons, the market has potential qualities that are overshadowed by the poor infrastructure, internal disorganization and unhealthiness that the market has maintained throughout its history, even though it is the largest and most demanded supply centre in Ventanilla. This thesis project aims to propose a new type of market appropriate to the characteristics of the current market “Señor de Los Milagros“. This typology will provide better working conditions to merchants offering solutions to their needs identified in this thesis. Additionally, complementary spaces will be proposed to improve the customer's shopping experience to maintain the market's competitiveness against other commercial options such as supermarkets.
