Private investment is one of the main reasons behind Peru’s economic growth, which volatility responds to a series of factors such as political uncertainty and macroeconomy. Is in this sense that this research paper analyses the effect of uncertainty in private investment. It provides focused points in theory and empirical analysis of the relation between both variables to prove the negative effect of the former in the latter. In theory, this relation is attributed to two factors: investors’ aversion to risk and the irreversibility of investments. From the empirical side of the analysis, for developing countries, several authors find results that confirm the hypothesis of this research: “both the macroeconomic and political uncertainty have a significant and negative effect on private investment”. The macroeconomic uncertainty will be measured through the inflation variables, exchange rate and others; while the political uncertainty will be measured according to the political risk, political regiment, and governance. Therefore, the political recommendations should be orientated to maintain the explained variables stable. From the methodological side, there had not been any profound study in Peru, thus, it’s advised to have an econometric analysis about both uncertainties simultaneously.
