This research focuses on the implications and limitations of the Efficient Market Hypothesis (EMH) over the years. This theory maintains that it is not possible to predict market returns since prices move randomly and all relevant information is distributed equitably among investors, incorporating at all times the current market price. Under these premises, it seeks to validate the possibilities that shareholders have to generate profits superior to the market. For this, we resorted to studies by authors who oppose the EMH as well as studies related to the theory of behavioral finance which coincide by arguing that irrational actions are primarily responsible for price movements that can lead to the creation of significant inefficiencies such as market bubbles. Faced with these anomalies in the market, regulatory measures are proposed to help prevent financial crises and improve their efficiency.
