Water pollution produced by heavy metals is a problem that is affecting the entire ecosystem. In Peruvian rivers, one of the more present pollutants is lead. According to a 2012 report from the United Nations [1], 1.6 million Peruvians are exposed to diseases due to lead poisoning, which causes a need for measurement equipment that collects information on the lead concentration in rivers. For that reason, this thesis project presents the development and implementation of a portable system for the acquisition of lead concentration in rivers using voltammetry with a correction factor. The device has global positioning system (GPS), Bluetooth for wireless communication with an external device, and an secure digital (SD) memory card to store data collected from the location and the chemical parameters from the measurement point. The system has a configuration mode where you can choose the current measurement range and a calibration model for the pH electrode and the voltammetric cell. The system has an instrument acquisition circuit calibrated with lead concentrations lower than 100 ppb (parts per billion) at different pH levels. The whole system validation was carried out in Lima with a Mantaro and Yauli river water samples, which was also analyzed by a third-party laboratory. The development and implementation resulted in a portable system with a volume of 1155 cm3 and a weight of 0.340 Kg, which is capable of measuring lead concentrations below 100 ppb (parts per billion) with a continuous operation autonomy of up to 6.89 hours.
