Today, wired control methods reign in the industrial process market. These methods are efficient compared to wireless networks. However, wireless networks have advantages that their wired counterparts do not: Wireless communication does not have physical connections. Hence, they are capable of streamlining industrial processes hampered by excessive cabling. Wireless networks also save companies maintenance costs. And finally, they allow remote communication between 2 or more distant points that are difficult to connect physically. This thesis focuses on the design and implementation of wireless control systems for regulating the temperature and level of a water tank located in a multipurpose study plant. The control method used is the PID (Proportional Integral and Derivative) and the PI (Proportional Integral) due to its simplicity and common use in the automation industry. Wireless communication is established through the use of a 5GHz WLAN. The SCALANCE W774 and SCALANCE W734 wireless modules were used for topology creation together with their wireless Profinet function. The control systems were implemented in the automation laboratory of UTEC (University of Engineering and Technology), for use as study material in automatic control courses. The results obtained demonstrate a higher performance by the wired control systems. Wireless controls tend to have a better settling time, but always sacrificing other critical properties such as error and overshoot. In addition, it was observed that the wireless control can lose communication in long processes.
