In Madre de Dios, the extraction of gold using mercury is a daily process. However, this element is harmful to health and the environment and does not extract efficiently the alluvial material. For this reason, an opportunity was identified to develop a hydrometallurgical process for the benefit of this economic activity, so that technology and sustainable development prevail. The objective of this thesis is to design a gold leaching process from artisanal gravimetric processing tailings in an internal recirculation airlift reactor. From the experimental tests, the most favorable phase recirculation conditions were obtained with gas hold up of 0.25 using 10% w/v of solids load and pneumatic agitation with an air injection of 1.6 L/s. In addition, a gold extraction of 77.6% was obtained by maintaining the leaching solution at a pH of 6.5, because it is necessary to maintain this constant pH and increase the airspeed to obtain better recirculation, suspension of solids, and gold extraction. The experiments carried out on a pilot-scale were redesigned to adapt it to a real process that operates a batch of 40 kg of ore per day, where leaching was proposed in a Pachuca reactor 2.5 m high x 1.5 m in diameter. The sensitivity analysis carried out determined that, to have an economically viable process, it is necessary to operate the reactor with a percentage of solids of 25% w/v, an air injection flow rate of 6.72 m3 /min, and to have two units in parallel where 8 daily batches are operated, processing 230 tons/year of ore to obtain 2.73 kg/year of Au with a net present value of $18,579 and an internal rate of return of 28%.
