Currently Trujillo is the third city in Peru with the highest demand for lodging establishments. Likewise, according to Osinergmin, the public electricity supply network in this city has low reliability values. Therefore, this research examines the technical and economic feasibility of a polygeneration system to cover the electricity and air conditioning demands for a five-star hotel in the mentioned city. Three different configuration scenarios were evaluated for a polygeneration system, based on an ICE combined with solar collectors and absorption chillers. Additionally, an energy balance for each scenario was executed with the EES program. As a result, the best configuration was the combined use of an ICE (128 kW), absorption chillers SE HW (258 kW) and DE EG (176 kW), electric chiller (148 kW), and solar collectors (49 kW). With this configuration, the total annualized cost was reduced by 27% compared to a conventional system. In addition, a 5 years payback period was obtained, an IRR of 20%, a NPV of 101,936 USD and an LCOE of 141 USD/MWh. Finally, the proposed methodology is useful to replicate the study in other cities of the country, in such a way that there is a broader panorama of the viability of these systems in Peru.
