A group of two hundred psychologists of a public and a private university were evaluated in order to establish whether there was a significant correlation or association between depression and perceived self-efficacy. Depression was assessed with the Beck Scale and Self-Efficacy Scale with Baessler and Schwarzer amended by Anicama and Cirilo, with psychometric adaptations in Lima. The sample type was stratified by age and educational level, as well as random and systematic. The results show that there is a relatively low negative relationship: -0.364 for private university students and public -0.389, p <.001, that is, to lower efficacy major depression or vice versa. There is a greater level of depression in students of private university at a public university and no significant differences were found by age and year of study at both universities. Highest average efficacy was found in the private university and significant differences for year at the public university students.
