This research is performed in order to determine the effects of the application of the Reuven Feuerstein's Cognitive Modifiability and Instrumental Enrichment Program, in the development of basic cognitive skills in children with Special Educational Needs (SEN). The study was conducted in a private Special Basic Education Center, located in the District of Chorrillos. The participants were children (11 girls and 22 boys) with Special Educational Needs (SEN), students from the 1st to the 5th grade primary level, with intellectual coefficients corresponding to the diagnostic categories of mild mental retardation (13 students) and moderate mental retardation (20 students), both sexes and chronological ages between 8 and 14 years old. Initially determined the formation of Group A (experimental) and Group B (control), and proceeded to evaluate both groups to pe-test mode, using the Stanford-Binet Intelligence Test form L-M, establishing scores of home for each of the areas explored. The Instrumental Enrichment Program (IEP) was then applied to group, A but not so to group B, to finally and once completed the implementation of the programme, applied a post-test to both groups with the Stanford-Binet. Analysis of the scores obtained in the pre-test, compared to the of the post-test resulted that found general percentage differences in cognitive abilities basic components of the program: General Understanding, Skill Visual-motor, Vocabulary and Verbal Fluency, Mathematical Reasoning, Judgment and Reasoning, as well as Attention and Concentration. The significance of Fisher exact test only identified a very significant difference (p <.01) on the cognitive ability of Judgment and Reasoning.
