The research centers its objectives in the comparison between orthography performance at a literal level between female and male students from the 6th grade who belong to public and private institutes of learning, respectively. The study sample comprise 256 students belonging to the private and public institutes of learning, which demonstrated different actualities and a peculiar social environment; therefore, the students were chosen randomly as part of the study to conduct the comparison of both institutes of learning. A list of “Ortografiando” was included in the study sample which consisted of 34 words to assess the spelling orthography level in the copy, dictation and production of texts, finding errors added, and substitution and omission of graphemes when writing the words provided in the assessment. The results compare the level of spelling between males and females students, finding higher incidence of errors in males. In addition, the spelling performance between public and private institution of learning, finds most errors in the public institutes of learning, also confirming the hypothesis proposed.
