The aim of this research was to estimate the nutritional status of compensated cirrhotic patients treated at the Alberto Sabogal Sologuren National Hospital (HNASS) in relation to dietary intake and the level of manual grip force in the period December 2018 – February 2019. It corresponds to a correlational descriptive study with nonexperimental design and cross cutting where anthropometric indicators were used, of manual grip force and of food intake. The sample consisted of 100 patients attending the external office of Gastroenterology Service of HNASS, who also met the inclusion criteria. For data processing was used the digital program Microsoft Excel version 2018 digital program was used and the association of variables was estimated by the statistical test Spearman Correlation, according to the results of the normality test. The results showed that 86% of patients had moderate malnutrition, 8% had severe malnutrition and only 6 % were well nourished. The dietary intake through the Reminder of 24 hours was rated as inadequate 77%, insignificant 17 % and adequate 6%. In turn, the manual pressure force was rated as 57% weak, 42% normal and only 1% strong. It was shown that the nutritional status has a highly significant relationship with the dietary intake assessed with the 24 hour reminder (r=0.596) and, in addition, there is also a slightly significant relationship with the manual pressing force (r=0.205). In conclusion, the nutritional status is proportionately related to dietary intake and manual grip force in compensated cirrhotic patients treated in HNASS.
